How to make your own Crochet Chunky Cloud Bag!

Crocheting with chunky yarn: A crochet pattern to create your own soft chunky cloud bag ☁️

Crochet your own cloud bag like this!

I am so excited to present my first free pattern through blogging! This is a fun simple project that is great for beginners. It only requires 2 simple stitches to create. This bag involves some hand sewing to attach the straps but I am not a great sewer, so if I can do it so can you!

This fluffy and functional chunky cloud bag is super soft and a great trendy fashion piece to carry all of your essentials around in style.

Chunky yarn creates a unique and visually appealing texture within crochet projects. Working with chunky yarn allows you to complete projects more quickly compared to using thinner yarns. It is a super trendy material which has been popularized by social media sites such as Pinterest and by influencers.

Get ready to crochet your way to cloud-nine with this pattern.

What do you need?

  • Thick fluffy jumbo chenille yarn, 200-300g.

  • 8mm hook.

  • Darning needle.

  • Regular 100g wool (or another alternative) for sewing in the same colour.

Crochet Chunky Cloud Bag Pattern

This pattern only involves simple stitches, it is super great for beginners but you must know stitch names to follow this pattern :)

Key:

SK - Slipknot Ch - Chain SC - Single Crochet DC - Double Crochet SlSt: Slip Stitch

number at the start - e.g "2sc" = into the same stitch

number at the end - e.g "x2" = for the next (2) stitches

Round 1:

Sk, Ch 17 (17)

Round 2:

Sc starting from the second chain all the way across your chain until you reach the final stitch, 3sc into the final stitch (18)

Sc across the other side, slst into the top of the first sc (17)

Round 3-8:

Ch 2, dc around the bag, slst (35)

Repeat 4 more times (5 rows in total).

Strap:

Ch 35, sc across until you reach the last stitch, 3sc (37)

Sc across the other side, slst into the top of the first sc (35)

Hand-sewing on the strap

Attach your straps onto the sides of the bag. You can pin this if you have pins to map out where it will go.

With your colour matched sewing material of choice, use your needle to weave in and out going through the strap and the bag to attach the first side of the strap.

Repeat on the other side!

If you get stuck on this step, there are some great tutorials on Youtube on how to hand-sew but I honestly just wing it. As long as it is sturdy and hidden.

Congratulations! You did it!

Well done! If all went smoothly, hopefully you have an awesome new chunky bag! If you are familiar with the following, you can add in an inner lining, a snap fastener or even a button to clip the bag shut! This is a super simple base to add any creative twist to, or leave as is :)
